## Overview

 Redstone Campground is set amidst a scattering of aspen groves on a ridge above the Crystal River at 7,800 feet, creating an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation in White River National Forest. Sites in the campground are widely spaced and offer wonderful views of red rock outcroppings and cliffs, though an understory of tall grass and a scattered forest provides plenty of privacy.
## Recreation

 Crystal River, a tributary of Roaring Fork River, is renowned for its fly fishing. Rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout are plentiful in this waterway. A hike up Mt. Sopris offers spectacular panoramic views. This 12,953-foot mountain dominates the surrounding landscape. The hike is 14.8 miles with a 4,600-foot. elevation gain. In summer, wildflowers carpet the trail through aspen groves and mixed conifer forest, climbing up to talus slopes.
## Facilities

 Redstone Campground has 35 standard sites, able to accommodate tents, trailers and RVs.The campground is equipped with picnic tables, a picnic shelter, campfire rings, showers, flush toilets, and drinking water. Electrical hook-ups are available at 17 of the sites for an additional fee. Firewood is available on-site. Playground facilities and horseshoe pits are great for family and group gatherings. 
## Natural Features

 In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the 2.3 million acre White River National Forest is a place of serenity and adventure, boasting 8 wilderness areas, 4 defined seasons, and 10 peaks surpassing 14,000 feet in elevation. The Crystal River flows near the campground and drains the Valley of the Coal Miners, a glacial valley that was once a center of coal mining in southwestern Colorado. Wildlife in the area abounds. Bighorn sheep navigate rocky ridges and bull elk bugle at dusk. Scenic rivers sustain populations of cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout. Alpine regions provide habitat for pika and ptarmigan. These species, along with many others, depend on surrounding undeveloped wilderness, clean streams, and diverse forests to live.

 The quaint mountain town of Redstone is a hidden gem located south of Carbondale. In addition to shops, galleries, and restaurants, the town boasts a castle that was built by industrialist John Osgood at the turn of the century.

Redstone White River National Forest

One loop has hookups. One doesnt. Free Hot spgs nearby busy after 8 am. Awesome walk 1 mile to town of Redstone. Historically significant with 1880 Coal Barron Castle and nearby 1880 Marble Quarry..

SOLAR SHOWERS!!!!

 Arrived opening weekend in May at Redstone Campground (just 1 mile east of Redstone) Camp Hosts were super friendly and had been working hard getting sites and bathrooms ready for the season. $30 per night which i did hear that is the highest price in the Roaring Fork Valley. Bear boxes at each site which we are always grateful for. Short walk down to river, or 1 mile into Redstone (Ruby of the Rockies!!) for a quick visit to general store and antique shop. We also left for the day for Marble to paddleboard at Beaver Lake and eat at Slow Groovin BBQ. Campground has water, showers, even a sandbox foe kids. 

Expensive but perfectly placed.

We enjoyed this campground a lot. Our spot (32) was quiet and surrounded by trees, you could barely see the other spots. The bathroom/shower was right across from us though so you did see people coming and going from there. The showers were actually warm and the vault toilets were well cleaned and maintained throughout our stay. The views around the campsite were very nice. We used this campground as a jump off for a few day trips - 1 day to Aspen to see Maroon Bells, 1day to Paonia to pick fresh fruit and do wine tastings, 1 day to Glenwood springs to the hotsprings pool. We also had dinner at Slow Groovin BBQ in Marble one night and went into Carbondale one night as they were having a local fair. We also checked out the Penny hotsprings (natural hotsprings in the river near mile marker 55) but the river was high this year so it wasn't possible to find a nice soaking spot (you were either right in the super hot spring water or in the super cold river water with no in between), still cool to check out though.

Warning a few spots are weird "shared sites" where 2 sites literally share the drive and are right next to each other. I think for our loop there were 2 that I \*think\* were 34/35 and 23/24

Nice Campground in Great Area of Colorado

Location is great!  A mile walk into the quaint town of Redstone, 20min drive to Carbondale or Marble (opposite direction).  Fun hikes near by and great fly fishing at the Crystal River (walking distance from campground).  Hosts were great.  We had site #1.  Shared site but spacious with great views.  No cell reception anywhere until you get to Carbondale.  We drove into Redstone to get some WiFi bear the Inn.

Great spot

Lovely campground with beautiful aspen and pine trees as well as some meadows. Peaceful and beautiful. Many campsites are lovely. There are three loops. Some sites(1&amp;2 and 6&amp;7) on the Allgeier Loop are joint campsites, meaning that there is no space between them(literally a shared gravel pad to park and picnic tables near each other, and for those sites, the electricity and water hookups are on one side, so both vehicles need to park near each other on that side so that the farther one can hookup. That worked fine for us bc the neighbors in the other site were flexible and kind enough to let us park over toward“their” side to hookup. The only other bummer in the colder months(like end sept when we stayed here) is that the sun comes up behind one mountain and sets behind another- so it gets quite cold and the hours with sun on the sites are limited. That could be an advantage in the summer though as it wouldn’t get as hot. It’s a bit isolated but that’s also nice. Not many hikes or bike routes from the campground itself. Easy drive to Aspen, Carbondale, and Glenwood Springs

Lovely Peaceful Campground

There are three sections to this campground: Osgood, Allgeier, and Mechau. Osgood and Allgeier have electric hookups; Mechau does not. Our site, 17 (Osgood), was a very large pull-through equipped with a large metal picnic table, fire ring (although there was a statewide burn ban when we stayed there), lantern hook, and bear box. There is good physical separation between the sites. The vault toilets were very clean and there is one flush toilet, located between Osgood and Allgeier, however, the showers were closed due to Covid. You hear road noise from just about any site, but it is not that bad. 

  

There are two options that lead to the small town of Redstone, about two miles away: a trail or a secondary road (not the highway). We made reservations for a Tuesday in September and it was a good thing we did as the campground was full. Convenient to the towns of Redstone, Marble, and Carbondale and not that far from Glenwood Springs.

This is our new favorite spot! So much to do, so beautiful, great hosts.... I could go on and on. Loved it!!!! 

Redstone campground- AMAZING 

Third time for us here. We have tried different sites and I like them all. I personally, have enjoyed the Oslo loop best. Mainly b/c of the views. Short walk to downtown Redstone, and a short drive yo Marble or Carbondale, this campground has a great location. No cell signal! Staff was great and keep the facilites very clean.

Always a favorite!!

Stayed in Mechau loop in a tent. Sites were nicely separated for privacy. Hosts Don and John were super friendly and had great recommendations for activities nearby! Pit toilets were probably the cleanest I’ve ever used at a campground. Towns of Carbondale, redstone, and marble are fun to explore (get the pizza in redstone). Cool off in the river just a short walk from camp!

Gorgeous, clean, quiet

Nestled in a valley between the red rocks and lush green. Very nice. Conveniently close to the road, but hidden and no noise issues.  We were close to one of the bathrooms but didn't have any odor issues. A great choice when camping in this area.

Scenic and peaceful

We arrived a little early and the other campers had not vacated our reserved site yet. The hosts mentioned there was another site available that was more private but had no hookups. We don't need no stinkin hookups. We stayed three nights and couldn't have had a better experience. One mile easy bike ride to Redstone and Propaganda Pie. Charming community with lots of history. Check out the coke ovens. Hosts were two friendly chaps that were fun to visit with. 

Beautiful Views

We loved this campground! I would have gave it 5 stars if we would have had a better experience with the double site we were in. The hookups were all in the back corner of the site, which only reached to one trailer in our site. We had no idea we would need double length power and water to reach the 2nd trailer. The other problem after we got the layout figured out was that both of the electricity hookups didn't work. We ended up sharing one which worked fine.. just a little frustrating to have to deal with. 

  

The sites are large and spaced out, which is great. The campground is beautiful to walk around and we loved exploring the area. The campground doesn't have any river access, but you can get to it from in Redstone.
