High Altitude Camping Getaway in Picturesque Gulch Surrounded by Aspens at nearly 11,000' and elevated over the county road, this property gives way to the awesome views of the Mosquito Gulch valley that are at the mouth of the highest drivable (4x4 only) mountain pass in the country (Mosquito Pass), ending in historic Leadville. The old abandoned railroad grade passes right through the property - actually makes a great hike - where the old railroad used to be that hauled gold and silver to the other side of the mountain during the Colorado gold and silver rushes.
Visit the photogenic Paris Mill and Magnolia Mill, both a short drive away, the South Park Museum (a recreation of an old mining town), or Kite Lake - the base of four 14ers: Democrat, Lincoln, Bross, and Cameron. If you get a good day, they can all be done at once. Not a bad way to bag four mountains!
Mosquito Creek is across the road, containing great fly fishing, and attracting numerous deer, elk, and moose year-round. The valley figuratively catches fire in the fall with the aspen trees turning every shade of red, yellow, orange, and gold.
