## Overview

 This location is available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Visitors are required to physically arrive at the campground to purchase and claim a site. Once on-site, you may be able to pay for your campsite(s) by scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app, and the Scan and Pay feature. If this option is available, you will need to first download the free Recreation.gov mobile app https://www.recreation.gov/mobile-app prior to your arrival as some remote areas have limited or no cellular service.

Crags Campground

My boyfriend and I took a 13 state journey this summer over the course of 3 weeks and this was one of my favorite campsites we stayed at. It has a beautiful stream right next to the campsites on the left and the site itself was quaint and very nice to tent camp in and the ground was softer so it wasn’t that uncomfortable to sleep on👍🏻10/10 would go back🏕 the road to get into is a little winding and rough and you have to drive through a separate, private Mennonite campground to get there but getting there was definitely worth the rough road in. The campground was simply breathtaking.

It was simply incredible

This is one of my favorite places I've camped. Close to town, but far enough out to actually feel like you're getting away. Easy access to trail heads, beautiful views. Clean, quiet grounds. (At least when we went in September.) Also, the colors in the fall are amazing.

Awesome Campground

The campground is a little out of the way and you feel like you out in the middle of nowhere.  Close to a couple of trailheads and a short drive to cripple creek.  Nice and quiet

Nice Campground

There are a few miles of steep, dirt road from the main road up to the campground.  I wasn’t sure my ‘99 Camry would make it, but it did just fine.  Sixteen campsites, fairly private with trees and bushes between.  Very clean bathrooms.  Beautiful little stream running through the sites on one side of the road.  I arrived on a Saturday night in early September and there were only two open sites, but by mid-day Sunday I was the only person left.  It was nice and quiet having the whole place to myself.  Trailhead access right from the campground to Devil’s Playground and Pike’s Peak.  The Crags trail (also right from the campground) was super low key, about 2.5 hours round trip with great views at the top.

Beautiful 4 mile drive up a winding dirt and gravel road through the canyons with the stream next to you.  Camp sites a little close but not so bad.  The scenery is out of this world.  Divide Colorado is 20 minutes away.  Host was very polite and knowledgeable of the area.Only 17 sites available so get there early.  Something about having a campsite with a creek running through it that makes it special.  Vault toilet available and there was a hand pump well next to site 11.  Site 11 is pictured.

Forest, stream, trails, wildlife, mountain views, cool air. It was great.

  

The dirt road in is pretty well marked and not bad to drive on. 

  

First come, first serve and not a ton of spaces. That said, on a Wednesday in September we got there at 3:00 and about half the spots were available. We had a great site beside the (empty) host site. It backed up right to a stream. 

  

My kid was bummed about no internet until he found the creek. Then it was all hopping and exploring.

  

By 10:00 P.M. it seemed most of the spots were filled.

  

Don't let the amount of traffic coming out the road and you drive in discourage you. The day use trailhead gets a lot of traffic.

  

Clean vault toilets. Picnic tables. Water pump (non-potable). Fire rings, though burn ban was in effect.

  

I'll add several pics to show empty sites, but keep in mind most of the better shadier ones were already claimed (and I didnt want to take pics of others).

  

Would definitely return - despite no AT&amp;T or Verizon service.

The camping spot you think of when someone says "camping"

This is a place my husband often hiked growing up.   We were one of the last campers of the season.  It was a chilly 25 degrees at night, but with good gear our tent camping experience was amazing!  We had a great hike and a great chat with the camp host.  We will be back!!!

Perfect solitude!

I camped here for quick access to the trailhead for hiking the northwest slopes of Pikes Peak.  This small campground was very quiet as there's only 17 sites.

  

I only spent one night and was hiking all the next day, but each time I used the vault restroom it was clean and well stocked with air fresheners.

  

My site was relatively small but there was a picnic table and fire ring, which were just a few feet apart.  My site and many others did not have a designated tent pad and the available space would've only accomodated a smaller 4 person tent at most.

  

The creek was nice but also meant that the mosquitoes were plentiful.  There was no cell service at all.

Quiet Solitude

Best week-long tent trip! Our site was 6 which right next that the creek and you can listen to running water next to your tent. So peaceful. Easy access to hiking Pikes Peak from the west side. Wife and I did it and it took about 6.5 hours. Richard the camp host was friendly. Water station and great biking/hiking trails all around. No Cell service. Dirt road, easy access. 

In the Pines 

*WARNING RV’s and TRAVEL TRAILERS* - the 3.4 mile dirt road up the mountain can be quite steep, at times rough, and narrow with water erosion on one side creating sizable troughs. Also only a few of the 17 sites could really my truck and my 18 ft trailer (I was site 14 which just fit me and was the flattest site by far). Ideal for tenting, car camping, and conversion vans. Other than those complaints, the campsite is beautiful with a creek running right through the middle with great hiking all around and the cleanest vault toilets you’ll ever find (as other reviewers have mentioned).
