## Overview

 Haviland Lake Campground is situated on its beautiful namesake within the San Juan National Forest, 18 miles north of Durango. Visitors enjoy the area for its canoeing, fishing and hiking opportunities in a scenic, natural setting. The popular campground is beautiful any time of the year. 
## Recreation

 Haviland Lake is an 80-acre, no-wake lake with excellent boating, canoeing and fishing opportunities. An accessible fishing dock is located on the lakeshore. Anglers cast for rainbow and brown trout. A Colorado Division of Wildlife fishing license is required to fish. Several trailheads are in the vicinity. The Forebay Lake Trail begins in the campground and leads to small Forebay Lake, just over a mile east of the campground. The historic Rico-to-Rockwood Wagon Road passes through Haviland and Chris Park. Built in the late 1800s, the road was used for six years until the railway opened.
## Facilities

 The campground offers single- and double-family sites, many of which have electric hookups. Picnic tables and campfire rings are provided, as are accessible vault toilets and drinking water.
## Natural Features

 The campground is situated on the shore of Haviland Lake, among shady, towering ponderosa pines, at an elevation of 8,705 feet. Many sites have lake views and easy shoreline access. Campers are awarded spectacular views of the Hermosa Cliffs across the lake. 
## Charges &amp; Cancellations

 Cancellations Individual Campsites: Cancellations up to 2 days before a reservation start date incur a $10.00 cancellation fee.\_\_ A visitor who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night\'s use fee including tax and applicable add-on for a campsite. Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee. No-Shows A no-show visitor is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date. No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first night\'s rate, taxes and applicable add-on for a campsite.\_\_\_\_ Refunds Visitors may submit a refund request through their Recreation.gov profile within 7 days of the end date of their reservation. Refunds will not be issued after the 7 days has ended. Refunds for debit or credit card payments will be issued as a credit to the original bank or credit card used to pay. For check or cash purchases, Recreation.gov will mail a Treasury check for refunds of cash, check, or money order payments to the address associated with the reservation. Treasury check refunds may take up to 6-8 weeks to arrive.\_\_ In the event of an emergency closure, the Recreation.gov team or facility manager will refund all fees and will attempt to notify you using the contact information within the Recreation.gov visitor profile.

Haviland Lake Campground

Athough I booked a 2 night stay I was only here 1 of the 2 days.  Very nice campground.  The pads and spots are nice and well groomed.  I booked one of the nicer spots too.  There are hookups at this campground and it isn't too far away from stores.  Liked the place overall.  No rushing waters but Haviland Lake took the attention.  Serene, not crowded with noise from the main road which is a ways off the water front on the other side of the campground.  The camp sites are not close to one another and provide ample privacy.  There are trees and shade, take bug spray as the mosquitoes want ya.  Very nice place in my book!  I would return!  Pricey but nice! Bathrooms are well maintained and just an overall pretty classy spot.

I stayed at Haviland Lake near Durango, Colorado for three days, but could have stayed for a week or more! Very beautiful area and nice campsites next to a pristine mountain lake filled with trout and in a serene mountain setting. Hosts were very friendly and helpful and there were opportunities for paddleboarding, canoeing, and kayaking (no motorized watercraft). If you have time, go down into Durango and take the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Train ride through the majestic San Juan Mountains of Colorado, or drive to Silverton and spend the day back in the 19th Century! 

Beautiful and peaceful mountain camping

Great fishing and kayaking/SUPing on the lake. It can get crowded with day users. People tend to drive fast where there are kids and dogs playing on the side of the road. All out of town plates. Very sad.

Haviland and Chris park

We really enjoyed this campground specifically for the location and the beautiful lake. Great place to kayak, SUP, and fish. However we had a very small campsite And could barely squeeze 3 small tents on it. Unfortunately no good trees to hang our hammocks, but the camp sites closest to the lakes had the best views and biggest space. Nicely kept bathrooms but no sink.

What a great stay!! The area was so peaceful and the Lake Loop trail was the perfect thing to wipe out our dogs for the day. Be careful choosing a site though, some are very close to each other and if you get loud neighbors you're out of luck. We got lucky though and it was lovely. The camp hosts were very attentive as well.

We stayed for one night at one of the double priced sites above the lake. The sites are spaced far enough from each other, so it is quiet even when the campground is full. Firewood is available for $7 per bundle.  There were small flies but they did not bite (the lake is being refilled which apparently makes them come out of the sand at the beach). Bathrooms were very clean. Good hiking options close by (we highly recommend Castle Rock).

It's a great NFS CG and has both dry camping and sites with electric only. Water is available at the CG and there are the new modern pit toilets (the good kind). Power is 30/50 amp and there is cell service in the campground. Fill up with water before arriving but there are water outlets for filling jugs.  

  

Reservations are made through recreation.gov and available 6 months in advance. Weekends fill up fast because locals grab all the reservations.

  

The lake was drained in 2020 to fix a dam downstream but is filling back up right now.

  

The CG is open May - Sept. In Oct it's open on a limited basis without services. Closed Nov through April.

  

Spacious sites and one of the best NFS CGs just 15 miles north of the Town of Durango and 6 miles south of the Durango Mtn Ski Resort on Hwy 550 between Durango and Silverton.

It was a decent campground overall I am sure but we got stuck with a pretty crummy site. It’s right from the bathroom with a light on all night. There is no where to sit your chair without looking at either the bathroom or another’s trailer. I would never use their electric hook-up sites in Loop D again. I would however use the primitive sites.

The campground rates drop to $13/night starting in mid September for the winter. Most bathrooms are closed and water spigots are off. The sites are level and well maintained in a beautiful tree covered area. Road is fine for low clearance vehicles. 

Winterized and beautiful 


Stayed at site 41 where the trees block most of the sun and the site itself is pretty level. Also the site had electricity hook up but it seems turned off. Payed 13 dollars(September 9 is winter camping)for one night, but if you have a Military, Senior. Service Pass (they won’t take American the Beautiful Annual Pass) you can get half off the prices. AT&amp;T service here is in and out, but near the pay station and east side of the lake near site 42 you can get good service. Enough to watch YouTube videos. Fishing is decent here
