## Overview

 Green Ridge Campground is located on beautiful Shadow Mountain Reservoir, southwest of Grand Lake in north central Colorado. Visitors enjoy the area for its great boating, fishing and hiking opportunities.
## Recreation

 Shadow Mountain Lake is part of the Arapaho National Recreation Area. It offers boating, swimming and fishing. Anglers cast for kokanee salmon, as well as rainbow, brown, mackinaw and cutthroat trout. A boat ramp and dock are located within the campground. The Colorado River can also be accessed from the campground. National Fishing Week is held annually the first week of June. Numerous hiking and horseback riding trails are in the vicinity, including the East Shore Trail (which is part of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail), Roaring Fork Trail and Monarch Lake Trail.
## Facilities

 The campground offers several single-family sites, as well as one double and one triple capacity campsite. Picnic tables, campfire rings and tent pads are provided, as are flush and vault toilets and drinking water. Firewood may be gathered in the forest or purchased from the host.
## Natural Features

 The campground is situated between the southern shore of Shadow Mountain Lake and the banks of the Colorado River, at an elevation of approximately 8,300 feet. Afternoon thunderstorms should be expected during the summer months. Due to the mountain pine beetle infestation and consequent removal of hazardous trees, there is little to no shade available in the campground. Since 2008, 3,000 pine seedlings have been planted to remedy the problem in the future.

 Rocky Mountain National Park\'s west entrance is located north of Grand Lake. With lush valleys and craggy peaks reaching elevations higher than 14,000 feet, visitors are provided opportunities for countless breathtaking experiences and adventures. Scenic driving, hiking, backpacking, fishing, horseback riding and wildlife viewing are popular activities in the park.

The pine beetle took its toll here so don’t expect shade, but you can walk to the lake and directly into RMNP.osty quiet, close to Grand Lake and the campground hosts were friendly.

S the campgrounds around the lake were so full we drove and pitched a tent nearby for 1 of the nights.  The views were nice.  We made it work.  It is always what ya make it.  I would not return.  Felt as if there was no privacy except off the campground.

Open, no shade really, fishing not good, ehhhh an experience

I had my hesitations with this site as a few mentioned the lack of privacy due to the shorter and more sporadic trees, but I was so grateful for that openness. The views are incredible from every site on the ground—hawks above, prairie dogs on the ground, beautiful mountain skyline. Even spotted a coyote in the distance. As long as you don’t mind running to the nearby bathrooms to go, you’ll find that everyone keeps to themselves on the grounds. Definitely not as private as sites I’ve had in the past, but it was worth it for the views. Not to mention the lake a few steps away. If you’re there for a couple nights, you’ll definitely want to bring a canopy for the lack of shade.

The views are worth it

Easy to find the campground and your reserved site. Easy access to Trail Ridge Road. Sites were pretty close together, and RVs were popular leading to some additional noise and light. Vault toilets, some sinks, but no showers. Gas station about 10 mins up the main road for any last minute needs.

Proximity to the water and clear skies made this campground nice for me. 

Note that I stayed here July 2020: peak season was made even busier with COVID.

The campground is nestled at the base of Shadow Mountain with the Colorado River running alongside the campground.  It is such a beautiful setting with the towering Shadow Mountain watching over the campground.

The Mountain Pine beetle is destroying the forest.  They are working hard to keep the dead trees cut and removed.  Be very careful walking in the woods.  The dead limbs and trees can kill.  There is very little shade but that is great for solar.  A hiker will find several hiking trails in the local area.

Directions:  The campground is located in the Arapaho National Recreation Area, 12 miles northwest of Granby on US Highway 34, two miles east on County Road 66, Forest Road 274 (on Shadow Mountain Lake).

Beauty 

Green Ridge is a great little campground to stay at to enjoy everything that Grand Lake has to offer. Just a short (10 min) drive into historic Grand Lake to the north, with Granby 20 mins south.

Sites are mostly level gravel and feature a picnic table, fire ring, bear box, and tent pad. The campground hosts are very helpful! They keep the pit toilets clean and have firewood for sale for $9/bundle. 3 bars of AT&amp;T LTE and 1 bar of T-Mobile on our hotspot. Both did OK with cell booster, although data speeds weren’t great.

The scenery is stunning! Go for a hike around Shadow Mountain Lake or rent canoes at one of the many shops in town. You won’t regret it.

Great central campsite to explore the surrounding areas 

Signal: 1-2 Bars LTE Verizon 

Water: potable and cold, located in front of bathrooms, looked like you could thread a hose on just not super securely. 

Electricity: none at site (outlet in the bathroom if you need a quick charge though)

Bathrooms: cleaned daily and flush great! 

Site: Fire pit (w/ integrated grill), bear locker, picnic table, and some sites had large tent pads. The parking spaces could fit a 20ft trailer easy. Almost no shade at any of the sites. 

 a lot of sites were reserved but there are a few first come first serve (FCFS) sites (#49 is a FCFS site and treated us well it had a little wooded hill behind the site with plenty of shady spots to hang a hammock. 

Close to RMNP, but it is about an hour and a half beautiful scenic drive to bear lake, get your timed entry passes way in advanced or get there before 5 AM.

Shadow Mountain Lake Bike trail is awesome and runs along the lake almost the whole time with many openings in the thick forest for great views of the lake. Not heavily trafficked either, I was able to run it without running into any bikers. 6m round trip and trail starts just past the dam.

Pros: nice Mountain View, bathrooms with flush toilets and sinks, water available for RV refills, wood available from host

Cons: lake not visible from campground (but accessible over a hill), hosts pretty much MIA when we were there, no electrical hookup which one may have expected for the cost
