## Overview

 With spectacular scenery and lake access, Dumont Campground is a paradise for birders, wildflower seekers, fly fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts. The area borders the Continental Divide and sits atop the Park Range in north central Colorado, offering views of several other Rocky Mountain ranges.
## Recreation

 The area offers spin and fly fishing for trout in the lake and stream, as well as access to hiking, backpacking and mountain biking on the many nearby dirt roads and trails. Campers can reach the two-mile Rabbit Ears Trail from the facility, and the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail nearby. Rock climbers can also find routes in the area.
## Facilities

 The facility is comprised of both a small campground and day-use area. Campsites are private and roomy, and most have clear views of the alpine meadow around the lake. Campers also have the convenience of three restrooms and hand pumps for drinking water. Dumont Lake is located at the picnic area, which a short walk away from the campground. The lake is restricted to electric motors or hand-propelled boats only.
## Natural Features

 The 50-acre Dumont Lake is surrounded by a spruce-fir forest and alpine meadow that boasts colorful wildflowers in warmer months. It sits near the base of Rabbit Ears Peak in the Routt National Forest. The Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland encompass nearly three million acres from central and northeastern Wyoming to north-central Colorado. Black bear, bobcat, coyote, elk, mule deer and moose are just some of the many animals that inhabit these rich and diverse lands. Dumont Lake is particularly known for its birding opportunities. 
## Nearby Attractions

 The closest town is Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Many more outdoor opportunities exist in the surrounding national forests and grasslands, including hiking, biking, camping, horseback riding, off-road vehicle riding, fishing, hunting, sightseeing and winter sports.

Dumont Campground

We did a Colorado road trip in late July, 2018 - we knew we were going to camp around Steamboat Springs in the middle of the week, but didn't have a plan so we just drove along US40 and stopped along a few campgrounds to see how they were. Dumont was the best - with a lake, close hiking paths, and a beautiful meadow with lots of wildflowers. The dumpster was locked so no need to worry about wild animals, the vault toilets were the cleanest I've ever used, and it was just an amazing time. The campgrounds host had a couple hummingbird feeders and we saw a ton of hummingbirds around! If i'm ever in the area again, I would definitely stay here!

We pulled in late at night so we didn't have a great view of what was around until the morning, and im glad for that because it was breath taking! Surrounding our tent was fields full of brightly colored wildflowers, There was a small patch of fog from the rain that happen right after we had set up our tent but it made the view in the morning that much more spectacular. The campground its self was fairly quite its has restrooms on site (no running water) and you could hear a very minimum amount of noise from the road but only if your listening for it. I highly recommend this campground if your looking to spend a few days in steamboat or even if you just want to wake up somewhere beautiful!

A USFS campground that’s unimproved, it’s a hidden jewel. Overlooking Dumont Lake, the Campground can be awash with wildflowers, cloudbursts, and singletrack. There’s a vault toilet and potable water available. Flyfishing the lake is pretty sweet as well.

Simply Amazing 

We found Dumont after a ranger at Lake Granby suggested we head to Rabbit Ears Pass after everything near Lake Granby was full. We got there about 11AM on a beautiful Friday and there were several spots still available. We had enough privacy at spot #15. We tend to stay up later than the families and I would say the entire area was very quite by 10PM when we dialed things down. Most spots pretty secluded, some are little closer together. The lake is like a .25 mile walk and very scenic. Bathrooms are relatively clean. Fire rings at all sites so you can have a fire during some stages of fire bans. Bring bug spray! I got eaten alive by mosquitoes... through my leggings.

Recommended!!

There it’s some misinformation about reservations at this CG but you can definitely reserve spots. The downside is getting here and having most spots reserved and UNUSED for the night. One of the many campgrounds that screw over the random camping traveler with a horrible reservation system but hey at least they got their money, right?

As for my experience I was able to grab one of 2 open spots early on a Wednesday. Unfortunately they’re easily the 2 worst spots in the entire campground and it’s not even close but I was only staying overnight so not a big deal. 

Campground is clean and nicely setup with good space between each spot and not overly jam packed with spots.

Dumont lake is nearby which is great to fly fish, canoe, sup, etc. $5 for a day pass but they do accept the Annual pass which a lot of us have

CG has water, cell service, and nice and clean bathrooms.

Plenty of pull through sites if you’re rig needs that otherwise you have pull in sites as well

Good location in a beautiful area so enjoy your stay if you can.

Great stop just a minute off highway 40 near Rabbit Ears Pass.  Right at Dumont lake with access from campsite and day use area.  Great hikes leading out just from campsite.  WIldflowers were fully blooming in mid-August

Campground is a short distance down a gravel road and was not crowded at all. Beautiful views; not on the lake but has a trail to it. Has bathrooms and trash bins 
and water available.

Nice spot near Rabbit Ears Pass. Classic wildflowers, water and greenery here. Probably better for RV campers, but not bad in a tent either.
