Carizzo Canyon Picnic Area, Comanche National Grassland

I get camping outdoors you’re going to have your fair share of critter encounters, but this was a whole different level! You couldn’t even have your eyes open without little gnats flying in them constantly. We ended up not even staying

Great, quiet, little spot. A little out of the way, if you’re just roadtripping, but, what a great way to experience the grasslands, see a little history, and I had the place to myself on a Saturday night. There are 3 developed picnic areas where car/motorcycle camping is allowed. I included a picture of the posted info to zoom in on. Loved staying here for the privacy (I didn’t see anyone for 24 hrs), but in August the mosquitoes were relentless. The other reviews are right, 20 miles of dirt road coming in from 287, and at least 12 or 13 miles from the north. be careful if you’re on a bike! It’s definitely Sandy.

Absolutely lovely spot. Campground is pretty open so not much privacy but there’s only 5 spots and I was the only one there that night. The campground is only accessible through many miles of pasture and dirt roads but even my Prius did just fine. A great little spot for a night or two on a cross country trip. Absolutely loved it.
