About
State Park
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park camping is available at two Environmental Campsites, located on the west side of Highway 1 south of McWay Cove. Both sites are hike-in only and no vehicle access is permitted. These sites are extremely popular year round and usually fill up six months in advance. Reservations are required and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at Reserve California. You may also call toll free 1-800-444-7275.
The Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is named after Julia Pfeiffer Burns, a well respected pioneer woman in the Big Sur country. The park stretches from the Big Sur coastline into nearby 3,000-foot ridges. It features redwood, tan oak, madrone, chaparral, and an 80-foot waterfall that drops from granite cliffs into the ocean from the Overlook Trail. A panoramic view of the ocean and miles of rugged coastline is available from the higher elevations along the trails east of Highway 1.
No dogs are permitted in the campground or on park trails unless it is a licensed and working service dog.

A dream campground π³
Highway 1 is/has been closed for a few weeks, unbeknownst to us as we made path going to LA from San Jose via the 1.
We stopped at Pfieffer state park which was a dream, youβre underneath the redwood trees amongst the river runs with the stars above you π²
They have a general store, restaurant & cafe for all your needs.
Breakfast/brunch at the ripplewood resort is a must

Big Sur perfection
The only difficulty here is obtaining reservations- be patient and vigilant. A couple of folks wandered into our site looking for a different view of Mc Way falls, but we were otherwise alone. In the event you are unable to reserve, check nearby parks. The view is stunning, the sounds are stunning, the smells are stunning, and the poison oak and crowds are somewhat easily avoided. Also recommended advance reservations at Esalen hot springs, and a night at Deetjens Big Sur Inn.
Magical
This was such a beautiful campsite! The entire area was huge, plenty of gorgeous hikes in and around the camps. Dogs had to be on leash the entire time and on paved areas only, and are not allowed on any stage park trails in the area, making it difficult to really explore if you have your doggos. There is abundant poison oak! But you are warned upon entering itβs in the area, and being aware of its presence made it pretty easy to avoid even with it surrounding most of our camp. The bathrooms and facilities are all very clean and supplied, showers are ran by token system purchased at lodge. Again, amazing campsite and even better surrounding views in Big Sur. Canβt wait to return
