Skyline Wilderness Park

It's pleasant but mostly a parking lot for RVs with spaces right next to each other. We camped here in October 2018 and it was quite crowded. We were lucky to get a spot on dirt under a tree, so we weren't in the parking lot, but right next to it. You pass vineyards on the road to the campground and can see them from the campground, as it's on a hill.  You're also pretty close to town so it's easy to get meals or groceries.  We arrived early evening and left early in the morning the next day so did not get to explore the area. We were pleased, though, to see that there's a nice archery range right next to the campground.

  

The fee was very reasonable. I can't quite remember what it was, but I think it was $12. There was wifi but with so many people in the area, it wasn't a strong signal. There were DVDs available to borrow at the check in station. 

  

We would stay here again.

Mostly a parking lot but the location is good

Skyline Wilderness County Park is a great little campground just outside of downtown Napa. There are always a lot of RVs there, but thankfully the tent section is separate from most of the RVs. The tent area leaves a little to be desired and is basically just a stretch of grass with picnic tables, BBQs and very little separation or cover from trees. Of course you don’t really think wilderness camping when you think of Napa Valley.

Despite being close to town there is actually quite a bit to do in the park and once you get back from the campground a bit you can really feel kind of far away from the congested Napa Valley. There are quite a few hiking trails and some offer beautiful views of the valley. By far the most popular is the Lake Marie Trail and Fire Road and Manzanita is popular with mountain bikers.

The River to Ridge Trail is nice and provides access to the Kennedy Park, the Napa River, and miles of bike paths, but check at the kiosk if the gate next to highway 221 (Soscol Ferry Road) is open and I have found it to not have a very consistent schedule.

According to a couple of friends that are pretty die-hard disk golfers, the course at Skyline is one of the best and most challenging in the area. I found it to be pretty fun, especially is your expectations are extremely low.

Being Napa Valley there is of course wine tasting and having a parking spot at the campground you have the perfect opportunity to take an Uber or car service to ensure your safety while enjoying Napa’s most famous export.

This is not a park that will provide you with memorable hikes or photos for your Instagram, but it is a decent place to stay in Napa if you’re the type that prefers to sleep in a tent or RV over a very pricey hotel.

Fun Private Park with Lots to Do

Clean showers and bathrooms, some trees, close to Raley’s Grocery store. Easy drive to the wineries of Napa Valley, a little further to Sonoma but a nice drive. Picnic table, some full hook-ups and some partial, we will ask for full hook ups next time just for ease of getting out when your ready to go.

The campground has good facilities and hiking trails. Most camp spots are in an open field, some tree shade.

Urban camping in napa

I tent camped here and really liked it. There is also an RV section. It has flush toilets, showers and WiFi.  For recreation you have the park behind the camp with great hiking trails and the whole Napa region.  The people who work there are nice and do a great job keeping it up.

Beautiful campground and park

Super easy access and safe, in the city so close to wineries, restaurants and shops. We were here as a stop in our road trip so it was a perfect stay. They provide WiFi and hot shower. Very clean space. 
Lots of people were doing the trail but unfortunately we didn’t have time to do it. The only reason we didn’t extend one more night was the freezing cold at night (visited in late December). There’s no separation between campsites, you just choose a spot. In our case, we only had to share the lot with one more tent so we had a lot of privacy. However, don’t know how “crowded” it can be in a busier season. 

Perfect for one night! 

We had been wanting to check out skyline wilderness Park for quite some time. Thanks to recently purchasing a much more updated tent trailer (our previous one was 27 years old and VERY limited),  we decided it was high time to take our “fancy” trailer to the fancy town of Napa.￼

We weren’t sure what to expect at first. It seemed rather gravelly and parking lot-ish. But, looks can be deceiving. Once we pulled into our spot, we were awed by the beautiful scenery, the gnarled oak trees and the serenity. 

The toilet facilities were immaculate (and smelled really good!), the trails made for some excellent walks, the children loved the native garden, the dogs enjoyed frolicking in the dog run, and we loved hearing the wild turkeys gobble at night!

We were only there for two nights so we didn’t really get to check out all that SWP offers but we will definitely keep it on our short list when we’re looking for a getaway to recharge. 

Fantastic Escape

The campground is zero frills - you pull into a gravel lot and you’re about 12 feet from your neighbors. The plus is friendly staff, amazing views, easy hookups, FREE showers and absolutely beautiful hikes that start right outside your door. We visited Skyline right after New Years, so the state was still in a partial lockdown.  We didn’t feel any inconvenience from the lockdown, so it didn’t bother us. Not sure how campers would be greatly impacted by lockdown procedures, but we didn’t notice anything. My fiancée and I both work remotely using hotspots on Verizon, and found no trouble at all. Data speeds wavered between 10 - 25 mbps depending on where we were on the property, but we could video conference and stream with no issues. 

I definitely recommend getting there well before the gates close because there were issues getting a hold of the camp host. Fortunately, we received an email with a gate code since it was locked when we got there at 5:01pm. Would I stay here again? Sure.

Basic camping but nice staff

We only stayed overnight the staff was very friendly,lots of stuff to do around the campsite from hiking,mtb,watch horses, frisbee golf and then you have napa where you can get wine,brewery,and restaurants that's only 5 minutes away....would definetly be back here again

Beautiful place

This park is close to downtown Napa and the wineries but feels like it’s out further. It has nice hiking with beautiful views of the vineyards and the city of Napa. The park itself, however, could use a little TLC. ￼ The restrooms and showers are clean and well-maintained but there are only four flush toilets and four showers for the whole park. You can see at one time the memorial gardens must’ve been quite something. But now are looking  weedy and in need of maintenance. ￼ Try not to reserve a spot in the main area. It’s mostly a large gravel parking lot. Sites 40 through 48 have more room and better views￼.

Good location and nice staff

I camped with a roof top tent so was away from the RV parking lot. Fantastic views and good facilities. Would come back for sure.

Finally properly working wifi and nice hot shower.
We reserved dry rv spot for 55$.
I think price should be less but place is nice and has very easy acces. Shop and laundry are very close to the campground.

Staff were friendly and very helpful.

It’s good for an RV park type setting, but it’s still an RV Park.

We didn’t try the trails as we explored the area by car.

The RTT area is generously sized, but not marked so you just have to hope you have respectful neighbors. We did!

Recommend the Hog Island Oyster Company at the farmers market in town.

Handy for Napa Area

Great place to hit Napa Valley. Staff was super friendly. Spots were pretty level, but close together. They gave free wifi but it was not consistent. It constantly dropped.

They had a great little fenced in dog park which was great for our dog. The bathrooms were pretty clean with nice hot water. Codes needed for showers.

Very quiet, no issues. We had friendly neighbors. There were people coming in for day use to use the trails for hiking, biking etc. We didn't get to explore as we were strictly in area to wine taste and eat some good food. We enjoyed our time there and would stay there again. $65 a night. Pricey compared to some places in CA, but probably a good price for Napa.
