## Overview

 Plaskett Creek Campground offers a beautiful location just minutes from Sand Dollar Beach, one of the largest and most popular beaches in central California. The campground gives visitors access to a variety of outdoor activities, including water play and exploration of the surrounding hills and forests. The family-friendly campground offers comfortably equipped sites, allowing anyone to enjoy a relaxing stay in the Los Padres National Forest.
## Recreation

 A short walk leads to Sand Dollar Beach, a very popular spot for surfing, fishing, swimming, exploring, sunbathing and more. Fishing permits are required for anyone over age 16. Anglers can expect a catch of yellow perch and other coastal surf fish. The beach is dog-friendly, as long as dogs are leashed and waste is picked up. A variety of trails exist along the beach, which lead to the bluffs that overlook the beach and coves in the area. Additional hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails can be accessed within a short drive from the campground, and offer scenic views of waterfalls, redwood groves and mountain meadows and streams.
## Facilities

 The campground offers single-family sites, as well as three group campsites, for tent and RV camping. Group sites can accommodate up to 40 people and 10 vehicles. Extra vehicles will be charged an additional fee. Utility hookups are not available. Individual campsites are each equipped with a table and campfire ring with grill. Flush toilets, sinks and drinking water are provided throughout the campground. An accessible flush toilet is located near Site 10. Group sites are equipped with several tables, grills and campfire circles. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided in the group area.
## Natural Features

 The campground is located in west-central California, on the east side of Highway 1. Sand Dollar Beach, the largest sandy beach in the Big Sur area, is just south of the campground. The Pacific Ocean borders the campground to the west and the surf can be heard at many campsites. The campground has a park-like setting, under a scattered canopy of mature Monterey pine and cypress trees. Cedar trees provide a fragrant aroma. All sites are grassy. The campground is situated at an elevation of about 200 feet in the Los Padres National Forest. Wildlife in the area includes fox, bobcat, deer and raccoon. Mountain lions and bears are occasionally seen in the area, although they have never entered the campground.

Plaskett Creek is my all time favorite campground.  It's small, clean, everyone's friendly.  It has great hikes and Sandollar Beach &amp; Jade Cove are right there across Highway 1.  I've stayed at some of the more private sites and even the ones in the middle and they were all perfect.  PC has flushing toilets but no showers. Dogs on leash and lots of room for kids to play.

Best Weekend Getaway

This campsite is one of the best I've been to in CA.  There is plenty of room and grass for the kids to run around in.  Beautiful trees are all around and some spots have views of the ocean and cliffs. Sand Dollar Beach is right across the street and is one of the most pretty ones in all of Big Sur. The only negative I can say is there are no showers available.  Other than that, I highly recommend recommend this site.  

Outstanding Campground  

Nice rv/tent campground. It was the most reasonably priced campground we could find in the Big Sur area. It’s right off Hwy 1 so there is some traffic noise but since the road is closed a few miles south, there’s not much traffic (this will change when the road reopens in Sep 2018). There is beach access across the road, about a ten minute walk. There are flush toilets which are clean. Several of the sites have a slight slope but not too bad. Sites have tables/benches and fire pits. Most had bbq. Ranger comes around every evening selling bundles of firewood.

Nice family campground 

Very nice campground with good privacy and shade for sites on the loop that surrounds the facility. Larger groups can reserve several adjacent sites in the interior section and share resources (tables, parking, etc) as needed. If you enjoy the seaside, you are a couple hundred yards away from a reasonably secluded, long sandy picturesque beach.

Great little place of Hwy 1\. Cell phone...AT&amp;T...no service. I thought I had a nice spot. Ground is a bit slanted. The spots to the left and right of me seemed way better for tents as far as flat goes. I use a popup and the pavement was good. If your looking for a ocean view site 6 is the only one. If you want seclusion 23 or 33 are surrounded by foliage. Group site 1 is also the best for seclusion, site 2 and 3 are side by side. Site 12, 13, 22, 23, 32 and 33 against the back are the best IMO. There is poison ivy so be careful with pets.

Beach is fantastic for surfers and beach-goers alike. Bit of a hike down to the beach but worth it. You can also hike the fire road behind the camp group for brilliant views. Only drawback are the stinky toilets. We get a group site every year.

Great beach and hike spot

We took our camper here in february and had the campground almost to ourselves. I think there were maybe 3 other campsites filled for the 2 nights we stayed. The site was very clean and spacious with a nice meadow behind us.

It's also a very short walk across the street to sand dollar beach. We got lucky with the weather and had crystal clear blue water and sunny skies with a light drizzle at night (perfect to sleep to by our standards). Can't really beat Big Sur area to get away from it all!

Just Wonderful

there is always a helpful camp host here to help. There are bathrooms. Large campsites with table, firepit, and stove. Walking distance to beach and hiking. Off road 4WD trails next to camp sight. Beautiful trees there too.

Bikepacking trip in March. There’s not many options for water, which made for an awkward shower at spigot. Campsites seemed to be spread out though everyone can be seen throughout most of the park. Felt safe and well rested.

Road to BLM site we wanted to go to was closed.  Luckily got a site here as a walk in right by the entrance.  Sites are close together.  Whole campground is pretty shaded under big trees.  Up the road is a much nicer campground on the other side of highway 1 that had full sun all day, and a great view of the ocean with more spread out sites.  No showers here.  Lots of families.  Had some overhead messy surf at sand dollar beach, a 5 minute walk from the campsite.  Beautiful beach.  

Great location, ok site

Stopped here for a night on my way up the coast on a solo trip. Nice grounds and pleasant staff. Can’t wait to return!


Great staff and nice escape

My husband was so excited to return to this campground he visited 8 years ago and was pretty disappointed in the changes. They’ve recently cut down a lot of trees and shrubs between sites, so there’s no real privacy. What used to be a beautiful sandy beach just across the street is now a rocky beach-the sand disappeared! There is a beautiful walk on the bluff -awesome for sunsets- and some really nice tide pools at low tide. Campground hosts were friendly and helpful.

Family friendly campground in Big Sur

The campsite is right off of the 1 and adjacent with the ocean. Across the 1 from the campsite is a cute day park with stellar views.  The camp host lives in a RV on the left when you pull up. You can check in there and the lady was super friendly. All sites are reserved with a piece of paper w clipped onto your camp post. Plenty of room for a car / two cars. Truck and small trailer. Garbage sites and bathrooms were very clean. The place was immaculate and the other campers were very friendly. $35/night. Our two dogs were welcome. 

Peaceful, clean, beautiful, friendly

This campground was great, the walk across to the beach is short. The beach, waves, sand, sunset are magnificent! (It is a steep walk down, and would be hard for anyone with stair/slope difficulties)

Our site was on a hill, so we have to back in between rocks to try to get flat. It was a challenge.

Only reason I took a star away is because of how out of level our site was.

Beautiful beach and grounds, site uneven

Badly indicated. Then entering campground, difficult to find loop, went to the left and didn’t see a do not enter sign behind another sign on an open gate… went really slow trying to find direction, opened window to talk to a gentleman, who started going off like mad, then on my left a lady appeared on a quad and started yelling too and telling me to get out of there (never said she was camp host). Guy kept screaming his lungs out as I left. Then spot 11 was very difficult to back in. Road very narrow and very bumpy in some area. No generator between 10am-6pm. Cold, foggy and humid. Its really a spot for tents. Not a good place for rv.

If you manage to snag a spot here, savor every moment! Getting an actual campsite along highway 1 is nearly impossible, and after checking for any open spots multiple times, we managed to grab the last first- come first- serve site here one night. Take a 5 minute walk across the street to the most beautiful beach area, staying for sunrise and sunset, knowing you have a cozy safe campsite waiting for you is an unreal experience!
