Nestled cozily in Arkansas’ slice of the Ozark Mountains, Withrow Springs State Park is named after Richard Withrow who established the area’s first grist mill. The reason people flock to visit this park each year, however, is to hike the many trails that lead you to local natural attractions, such as the enormous limestone bluffs that surround the area, mystical bat caves, and the freshwater springs of course!

What makes Withrow Springs State Park a consistently popular destination? The variety of recreational activities that can be found within. Visitors can choose from options such as diving into the seasonal swimming pool, shopping in one of the multiple pavilions, the enticing snack bars, tennis, and basketball courts. Fishing and boating are among the most common activities, and if you and a group want to try floating down the water, the park even offers a shuttle and canoe renting service for you!

Camping at this park is relaxing and pleasant, as most of the campsites are located in more wooded, shaded areas. Primitive sites are first come, first serve, but the park does offer campsites you can reserve, which come fully equipped with hookups and a modern bathhouse. 

The trails in this park are a notoriously great experience, and among those is the popular War Eagle Trail. Along this trail visitors will come across one of the only caves in Arkansas open for public viewing. However, this popular cave is temporarily closed. Reach out to park officials for more details.

Withrow Springs State Park Campground

This place has a small RV loop with a full bathhouse, as well as a loop of walk-in tent sites with access to two nearby toilets and sinks (but not showers). Unfortunately, the loop is little compressed; both too close to the road noise and to neighbors across the median area in the center of the loop. Also, the pool is reported to be permanently closed, and you need to hop in the car to get to the playground and hiking trailheads. They could do a better job redesigning the layout of things to fix these issues and add privacy as well as easy access to the recreation features. 

Pluses are: a nice Ozarks setting. We enjoyed War Eagle trail even though the cave is closed, because it offers some great views. We found the second half of it too risky with our young child, due to steep dropoffs and wet conditions. Also, we took side trips to Eureka Springs and two pretty waterfalls along the gravel county roads near Forum, Ark. Overall, a worthwhile destination. 

Ozarks family camping 

Withrow exceeded all expectations.  The tent walk in sites are new and updated.  Each site has a new tent pad that can accommodate up to an 8 person tent, new tables and conveniently located fire pits.  The facilities are updated and clean and located a short walk from the walk in sites.  The paths to the walk in sites are well marked and paved which makes it easy to haul gear.  The park has 3 hiking trails and is a short (less than an hour) drive to Eureka Springs.  The park has a playground for the kids and slow flowing stream to relax  from the hustle and bustle.  Reservations are recommended as this park fills up fast on the weekends.

Awesome

We have debated staying here for years but with the cost for an RV spot at $30+ per night, we were priced out. However, last fall they opened 10 walk in tent camping spots and we were sold. The cost is the normal amount of around $12 a night for a tent site and each comes with a great spot for the tent, a fire ring, and a table. The campground gets loud but it is always enjoyable. The grounds have hiking trails and a pool. We have never been on the War Eagle River to float as it is only seasonal.

Great for Hiking Hobbs/ Visiting Eureka

Withrow Springs is a pretty nice park overall, but it does have some detractors with the stagnant water filled with algae along the side of the road and the bugs. The positives, it is a really nice facility with well maintained campsites, bathrooms, and a large pool if you have little kids, and a nice visitor's center.

The War Eagle Trail is also nearby with a gravel parking lot right near the entrance of the park.

There are also a lot of trees with shaded campsites. It is not a perfect campground but it is pretty nice. With a few upgrades and some drainage issues fixed, this park could easily be a four star park and campground.

Withrow Springs has Good and Bad

We went to this quaint little park for a quick weekend getaway. Two families with kids met up and tent camped in sites next to each other. Clean campground, beautiful dogwoods, cute little spring.

Nice little spot

This small State Park just outside Huntsville Arkansas has many amenities. Family friendly handicap accesible. I has 30 tent Rv and walk in tent camping. There is a very nice playground for the kids, a swimming pool in the summer months. Campgrounds are very clean clean and have full bathrooms and showers.

Hidden Gem

We came to this state park after hours without a reservation and grabbed our site. We wer the only tent campers, and there were only a few RV’ers. The next morning we went to the camp office and paid our nominal fee (senior discount). The camp is beautifully maintained, great bathrooms and shower facilities. We chose this site to make day trips to War Eagle mill and Eureka springs, so it was a great location. The tent sites were some of the best we have seen, so perfect for tenters! We hiked the premier hikeand dispite fighting spiders the entire trail it was beautiful with caves and river views. 

Great for tent campers

This is one of our favorite ‘close to home’ campsites. It’s about an hour out of Northwest Arkansas. 

All of the trails are very nice to hike, even for our little ones.

FYI there is no AT&amp;T signal at the campsite. If you need signal you can get it at the visitor center and on most of the trails we hiked.

This is one of our favorite state parks in Arkansas. Great full hook up sites and tent sites.

On of the best state park campgrounds

Great park. Absolutely beautiful with wildlife everywhere. So peaceful, but watch for sasquatch! They have a pool and playground with nice trails to boot. Campground has 30 sites with full hook-ups as well as 10 walk-in campsites.

It’s a nice park with clean restrooms. If you are looking to get away from this crazy world and slow down for a couple days this is the place to go they have a couple nice hiking trails and a swimming pool for the hot months 

Nice campground 

I love going to Withrow I could spend forever there. It's such a peaceful calm environment surrounded by beautiful forests and streams and the river and caves and bluffs and everything is just gorgeous the campsites aren't right next to each other they're each in their own most secluded kind of spot. Be prepared to walk uphill if you're going to the walk in sites.  I've walked all the trails multiple times and I can walk them again everyday they're beautiful the Forest trail dogwood trail, it's unfortunate that the old War Eagle trail is closed,and the cave as well.  However I just recently learned that they opened up or did a new war eagle trail going to check it out this weekend LOL


Could go again and again

This park was amazing! It had something for everyone in the family.  The tent sites were nice and private. They have a pool,  great hiking trails, and there is a float service nearby in Huntsville call Ozark Adventure &amp; Recreation and they were so nice and helpful over the phone. We had planned on floating but decided against it because of recent rain and an unexpected drop in temperature.  Overall we had an amazing trip and we will definitely be going back.

New favorite 

We stayed for one night with a Model Y + SUV Tent in Cold December and it was great! Visiter Center was really nice and the lady was nice to answer any questions we had. Heated Shower house and bathrooms were amazing. Charged/Conditioned the car with 50amp plug. Quiet and Comfortable. Will go back!
