A must see

Unfortunately contracting/spreading covid is more likely when you camp alone, so that’s off limits for now, but you can day use the park, and mingle with all the other day users.. much safer 😂 Anyway, it’s a gorgeous place with the highest concentration of petrified wood known to man.

No services, No worried

I had my reservations about going here. I thought would see the park in 20-30 minutes. We took almost three hours to drive the 25 miles through the park. Some areas are very austere, however the OTHER areas more than make up for it. The Petrified Forest is NOT a bunch of rocks laying around.…

Secluded and gorgeous

Dispersed Camping was wonderful here. Permits are available at the visitor center. We walked down into the wilderness area behind the painted desert Inn. Beautiful views, an easy hike out, and no one else around

  • A pano of one of the BLUE MESA area, we were looking for a campsite and this was the one moment we had no wind interference, shortly thereafter the wind was blowing so hard it knocked his hat off
  • Blue Mesa area which has one of the coolest overlooks in the park of the area because of the colors

  • When you first enter the area this is what you will see just off to the right. There are numerous pull offs that you can utilize to observe and if you are doing dispersed camping you will find that you can use these for your base.

See the Milky Way!

After we paid the park entrance fee ($16, I think), we picked up our FREE back country permit from the visitors center first thing. There we were told we were going to be the only people in the desert that night.

After we did all the road side attractions by car, we headed to the trial head at the…
