I loved this campground! You can see the lake from most sites. There are plenty of small walks you take to explore. The sites are well shaded and nicely separated. There is water to fill your jug that is drinkable. The toilets are vault and can have a chemical/porta potty smell if people don’t shut…
The sites are well shaded. There are composting toilets that generate no bad smell. The sites are spread out well enough. I don't like first come first serve aspect. I get very stressed without a plan. When I arrived I tried to pay with a credit card. I was unaware that cash or check was needed. A…
Tons of spots along FR 222 in which have a great distance in between camp sites! Would definitely come back if I’m ever in the area!! Can be loud at night and during day due to non stop cars/bikes. But other than that tons of wildlife Giselle’s, open range cattle, coyotes are loud at night time.…
Finding the area was slightly a challenge but the drive was more than worth it. We went with huge puddles and mud so I recommend a high clearance 4x4 vehicle for the drive up. Views were stunning

Did this December of 2020
You pass the Home Depot and make a left into Fire Road 231 and it’s about 24 miles (1 hour) since i was going 20-35mph in a Prius. Everyone else was in 4x4 but 2WD can make it up just that lower vehicles will feel ever bump in the road. I have T-Mobile and had 2-4…

I’m in a Minivan and the roads were a bit of challenge but nothing bad whatsoever. There are so many places to pull over and tuck yourself away. I would recommend this spot to anyone who’s traveling alone and wants some extra security. (Shooting range is near by so be aware you will hear gun fire)
Finding true dispersed camping with the growing population of the nearby cities and towns has become more difficult. This area is wonderful because of the access and amount of area to choose you site. There is plenty of usable space and a network of roads for adventure.
Pros: Less people Fairly…
The fine if caught littering, etc. should be so high people wouldn’t even think about it. Even jail. If I was setting the fine it would be $10,000. 6 months in jail. Second offense: $20,000 and charged with a felony. I’m sick of people ruining things for other people.
This is a beautiful place right across the street from Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. The campsites are very generously spaced so that you feel like you have a place to yourself. The campground host is very friendly and helpful, bathrooms have flush toilets and are very clean. Plenty of…
I camped here in winter and my camping experience here is one of the best I ever had. It was a little freezing though.
Lots to do in the surrounding area, including a winery right outside the gate. Good RV and tent campsites. Nice pool and spa area, lodge area, library and mini golfing green.
This campground is for RV only. You need a 2000 year RV and newer. They have complete RV hook ups. Short and long term available. Staff is really great. But don't mess around, they'll boot you for infractions of their rules, they won't have any of it. Real close to stores and they'll receive…
Awesome place nestled in the woods. Tons of open area for dispersed camping. Short drive to town in case you want to grab a bite to eat or forget something.
