The campground has 138 sites: 68 sites with electric (50/30/20 amp service) and water and the remainder non-hookup sites on paved roads for tents or RVs. Every site has a picnic table and a fire pit with an adjustable grill gate. There are no size restrictions on RVs. Well-mannered pets on leashes are welcome, but please pick after your pets.

The office at Lost Dutchman is open until 7 p.m. for campsite check-in, but after hours (with campsite reservations) you can grab a map by the ranger station and head straight to your campsite! If you are staying multiple nights, check-in with the camp host, or a ranger to get a vehicle tag.

Lost Dutchman State Park Campground

This is by far one of the prettiest AZ state parks I have camped at and I've been to most of them. This place is only about 30 minutes from my house, how lucky am I!

I was there in late January and the weather was comfy in the day and cool- cold at night. It is a very windy place, so make sure to tie everything down and have some sort of wind shelter in the afternoon if your not hiking and just hanging out at camp. The hiking is plentiful, the people around are nice, the views are awesome and there are plenty of wild life to see. Going back in November... Can't wait

One of the prettiest AZ state parks there is!

Lost Dutchman is one of the best campsites to wake up in. One of my favorite trails in Arizona.

The campground was great! Clean and nice bathrooms with showers, nice places to park. Gorgeous views of the mountains. The only complaint is that it’s a little crowded, but not enough to ruin our experience. The price was great too!

Great access, views are spectacular!

We stayed two nights at site #4 at Lost Dutchman State Park in early May, in a campervan. The campground is very large with multiple different loops, some with large open RV sites and some more secluded, a mix of pull through and back in sites. We walked most of the campground, and if you don't need a large RV or trailer site I highly recommend the sites from 1-15, they had pretty good privacy for a desert campground. The campground loop we were in was fairly empty when we were there (mid week). The view was amazing! Site was large and level if you are tenting it, with a nice level parking pad. Bathrooms were a bit of a walk from our area, so take that into consideration. They were spotless and the showers were available at no extra cost, which was great! Site was wonderful for just lounging around and relaxing at. Potable water spout was just two sites over, a short walk. There were fire restrictions so propane stoves only, no campfires. We hiked the siphon draw trail up to the top of the flatiron, a very challenging and unique hike with a lot of rock scrambling. The trail leaves right from the campground which was perfect. The campground was very clean and quiet while we were there. I highly recommend Lost Dutchman to anyone looking for camping near Phoenix! We reserved ahead of time, campsites were $25 with the online fee.

LOVED the Lost Dutchman

Clean facilities, beautiful surroundings, full amenities. We loved staying with a big group of teardrop trailers and home built campers. The area is beautiful and user friendly facilities. One of my favorite winter camp spots.

I absolutely loved the setup for this campground. Each space offers enough room and you get a wonderful view of Lost Dutchman surroundings. There's full on bathrooms,  shower, and campfires.

Reservations are necessary, as many people grab these spots, and often for long stays (14 day maximums). Due to extreme heat, I recommend visiting in the fall. Winter, spring, and summer can tend to very uncomfortable.

Loved the variety of hikes here, anything from easy to medium-difficult. The individual sites are pretty small and hard to put a tent anywhere but the paved drives into each nook, much of the ground is covered in small plants and cacti. There's a picnic table/bench thing at each spot, plus a fire pit grill (which is the only place you can burn). Bathrooms and showers are on site and worked great during our stay. Bring plenty of water to hydrate with!

Great modern facilities including showers, lots of hiking trails leading into the Superstitions from the campground, old mining town right next door which also has great hiking and is worth the visit.

Rustic and Charming: Epitome of AZ

Campsite 36

Spent the night close to home as my dog had never been camping and I wanted to see if he liked it (he does!).

Booked online about two weeks prior for a Monday night stay and most of the campground was available. When I arrived about 75-80% was full, so good idea to book ahead.

Some of the sites are super close together, especially on the newer loops (sites 75-104 and 106-134). They'd be ok with a trailer, but I'd feel cramped in with my tent. The main part of the campground where I was is a bit more spread out, with vegetation between most of the sites.

My site had a big pad for the tent that was raked, a picnic table, a fire ring/grill, easy access to the hiking trails, and a great view of the mountains.

Beware during the winter as the wind can come up during the night and morning hours, so stake your tent down well. It got up to maybe 15 mph, so not super strong, but typical for the edges of the valley.

Staff was friendly, and the bathroom was clean. I didn't use the shower.

One specific note about my site 36: don't book it if you'll be taking a 5th wheel or really any trailer. The access road is narrow and the parking spot is at a 90° angle so it'd be very difficult to back into. Better to pick one of the pull thru spots. If you have a campervan or are tent camping then it's a great spot.

I'm glad I came here. Can't wait to come back! This would be an epic place during a full moon, or really anytime it's clear to see the stars. Too bad it was cloudy my entire stay.

Great winter camping

This is one of many outstanding Arizona State Parks. Sites are clean and most level with mix of electric and non electric. Suggest you make reservations well ahead for busy winter months!

Great View, Great Trails

Large campsites in main loop. Great for boondocking or not. Nice bathrooms, great trails, good location. Helpful staff, I love it there.

Great place, near Phoenix but feels remote

My family &amp; I had planned to head to a different campground but it was snowed in. After several hours of driving, we couldn't find anywhere! As a last try, we went to the Lost Dutchman State Park &amp; were pleasantly surprised. We camped for 2 nights &amp; had a great time. Excellent trails, beautiful views, friendly staff... overall a great experience that my 3year old still can't stop talking about.

If you love the Sonoran desert landscape, this will be one of the most beautiful parks you will ever have been to. 

Exciting 

We got what I think was literally the best spot in the camp. It was busy when we went but not super full every night. Great system of hiking and biking trails for all levels. Some spots have Water and Power. We boondocked it. About 15 minutes away from a grocery if you needed it.

Perfect spot for Hiking and Mountain Biking

Love this place. It's our go to when we want to get away but don't have a lot of time to drive far.

Nestled right at the base of the Superstition Mountains - this is a great location that is close to excellent hiking and riding. Also close to a unique drive out to Canyon Lake!  For the very fit cyclist you can ride from this location out this lake.  It's an amazing and very challenging ride indeed..!

Campsite is clean and very easy to reserve ahead of time on the supported website which is very easy to use and see all the items open. 

Extra bonus for this Campground, should you need to, you can cancel your reservation up to 1-2 days out.

This is an amazing place yo camp and hike. The views of thd mountains at sunset is surreal. Immaculately maintained. Water and electrical hookups as well as tent camping dry spots. Very hot in the summer but heavenly in the winter.

Lost Dutchman State Park

One of the most striking campsites I’ve ever been to. We were at site 135 which isn’t on a loop but rather off the main road but that wasn’t a drawback. It was a short walk on a path to the flush toilets and showers from our spot too which was a plus. Water there too. We were tent camping with two young kids (2 and 4) and this was a great spot for that. The pull in wasn’t very long FYI. Rangers were nice, sold ice and other items at the camp store. Only drawback was the signs to find your loop/site were a bit confusing but it could be because we’d never been there before. 😜

Beautiful State Park Campground 

Beautiful sunset, amazing view of moon rising over mountains. Heard some coyotes in the night, which was exciting. Enjoyed hiking the trails and exploring the landscape.

Gorgeous Views

Beautiful views here, they have both water/electric sites plus dry campsites, all have views with picnic tables and fire ring grill grate. It had been 110 days since rain when we first arrived, so no fires first couple days, but they got rain yesterday 12/10/20 so we can have fires again. This is desert camping, the birds and everything in desert is happy about the rain. Goldfield old mining town is across the street, worth a visit as well for old western town lovers 1883 I believe. Route 88 will carry you through beautiful curvy mountain road over to canyon lake and Tortilla flats, well worth the drive. Lots of hiking from Lost Dutchman State Park. We have seen rabbits, roadrunners, doves, quail and a number other birds, early morning and evening hikes you will see plenty of creatures feeding off the desert. The Saguro cactus are incredible. 

Beautiful Views

Arizona State Park campgrounds are generally developed to maximize profit at the cost of minimizing camper experience. Lost Dutchman offers one bath house to service five or six loops of campsites piled one on top of the other. Because there are so many sites, the  campground is managed like a military operation with untold Numbers of rules and regulations to understand and follow. If you fail to follow, a Ranger will be by to repremand and straighten you out. Coyoties are bold here and will enter your camp even if barking dogs attempt to deter. I reserved four nights but left after two. Tortilla Flat SP up in the Superstition Mountains NEAR Canyon Lake or BLM/National Forest dispersed camping is tmore to my liking. 

Great Hiking

One of our favorite AZ state parks...well maintained, great shower house, can't beat the views, and fantastic access to hiking, biking and OHV areas.

I camped for the first time and had incredible views of the majestic and iconic Superstition mountains. I brought my cat Mango and we had an amazing time! The staff is friendly and not intrusive. I had an amazing time, and will definitely go back.

Hiking was amazing and there were trails to last weeks for people at all levels.  The Superstitions make a beautiful backyard from which to relax and appreciate the beauty.  The camp hosts were friendly and attentive.  All amenities were kept up beautifully.

Lost Dutchman State Park was simply fantastic!

my family and I did a 2 day camping trip to the lost Dutchman. We all had a blast! The staff was super friendly, everybody we came into contact with was super friendly. We had a great view of the superstition mountains 👍🏿. The bathrooms, and showers was kept clean. I would definitely camp here again.

We spent two beautiful days in lost Dutchman. The park is maintained immaculately. So much wild life. We had a family of ground squirrels that were cute as can be.

We are located about an hour away. This campsite allows us to enjoy a last minute camping trip close by. Still close enough to civilization that we can run into town to get things if need be. Family friendly. Feels like being in the desert when actually very close to the Phoenix metro.

Great campground 

Went out to fine tune our camping setup with the family and a new tent. After several years away from camping, we are quickly learning the ropes. Lost Dutchman is close enough to town if we need supplies(which this trip proved to be needing) that we can go get what we need from Apache Junction. Can’t wait for the fire ban to be over at the end of the season. Lots of fun as usual.

Beautiful desert campsite 

Very scenic, full capacity during winter but still quiet. Abundant Sonoran wildlife &amp; situated among saguaro cactuses.

Absolutely loved this place.  Clean facilities if you need them.  Sites are spaced out enough that you don’t feel like you are on top of one another.  Beautiful desert landscape.  Can’t wait to go again.  Hookups for trailer were in good shape and well taken care of. Site was clean and ready to go when we arrived.  Staff was awesome and super helpful. 

Brilliant Park and Campground

The place is gorgeous. Close to town and funky roadside attractions. No WiFi but decent cell. Very clean, well maintained and quiet. Lovely hiking in the park.

Just a beautiful campground with room to spread out. Good electric &amp; water, the three sites we’ve had were spacious &amp; pretty flat. 

Second time here

We've really enjoyed our three night stay at Old Dutchman State Park. Grounds are well kept. Staff very friendly. Showers available. Campsites are well spaced especially if you are lucky to reserve an outer one.  Great hiking trails from campsite to the Superstition Mountain. 

Only hesitation are the limited toilet locations. There are only two for a rather large campground + cabins.  Closest bathroom for the 105-134 loop was a 15 min walk. As someone who tents rather than RV the distance was an issue given the lack of privacy between sites. 

Gorgeous campsite close to Phoenix

Dry camped. Generator hours are 5-7 at night and 8-10 in the morning. Sight was level and views are great in all directions. Can see canyon one direction and sunset over Mesa in the other. 

Amazing views 

The park has a nice trail for sunset, and the campground is well maintained. There is overflow parking for $15 per night, no service. 

Nice trails and campground

Nice, clean state park.  Fantastic hiking trails leaving from park including Flatiron mountain.  Epic hike! Nice clean warm showers.  Negative is that many people run their generators non stop.  That is annoying!

Nice State Park

I didn't like paying $25 a night for a space with no hookups, but we did choose a site near the shower house, so that was good. Superstitions are awesome! Coyotes yip at night. Quail ran thru my site. The dog park is great!

Beautiful boondocking

They have both cabins and rv and tent the views are amazing 👏  stafed great . Just make sure you read the rules for cabins vs tent ⛺️

My husband and I dry camped in our RV here for one night in mid January. Park was very packed, but very clean and quiet. Nice place to get some rest. Gorgeous views of the superstitions. Unfortunately we had to buy an extra day pass to hike in as check in is at 2pm and check out is at noon. If you are planning to hike into the mountains I recommend booking at least 2 nights in the campground. Staff was friendly. Dump station very crowded starting a couple hours before checkout time

Not allowed to run generator during the heat of the day. Very strict. They were driving around in golf carts in 100 degrees to tell you not to run generator. 

Too Hot

We stayed in one of the dry sites. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Hiking was beautiful. Views were spectacular. We will be back!

Beautiful park and hiking

First time visiting, the Park Rangers upon check in were super friendly, camp hosts kept everything tidy, the bathrooms were not vault toilets but real flushable toilets that were ALWAYS CLEAN and soap dispensers filled!! Awesome job!! Very quiet overall, could even hear the buzzing of the bees collecting pollen from the trees in bloom. Saw a coachwhip snake sunning (non venomous), and no shortage of stars. Trails were well marked and easy to find. Mountain bike trails were fun and well marked also. Bike riding distance to Goldfield Mining town to step back in time for a shot of whiskey and watch the high noon shootout by the old west cowboys then cool off with a prickly pear ice cream cone!! can’t give it enough stars!!!! Try this one you won’t be disappointed!! 

Awesome Camping 

All in all it was a good first trip out! The park is beautiful and your ￼ surrounded by the mountains. It was a bit windy and fairly nice outside when the sun started to set. 
We were at site 52 which is a fairly big pull through site so that was super nice! Has both power and water hook ups. 
The camp host and staff are very nice. Would definitely be a great place to spend more time in the winter to do more hiking!

First trip out with our new camper

Our site was at the top of the loop closest to Mts but furthest from restrooms.  It was a 1/3 mile hike to restrooms.  Keep that in mind with kids!  Our site itself (120) was perfect for one tent and our car.  It kind of poked off the main loop away from other neighbors which is why we picked it, very close to the mtb trail and easy access to the trail leading to siphon draw.  Very little shade.  Actually close to park edge we could see peoples houses to the SE.  would camp at this campground again, but for this site would do RV with own restroom.  Even in late April early May need EZ up for shade or almost too hot.  Fun family stuff at ghost town across the highway.

Stunning View Superstion Mts

Lost Dutchman is a beautiful campsite however the sites are a little closer than what we prefer. We were in site 98 which was right in front of the Superstitious Mountains with no obstructions. The site was a pull thru but was barely long enough for our Toyota Tundra max cab and 20-foot trailer. A picnic table, fire ring and a couple of camp chairs is about all that fits at this site. If you want your trailer door to be lined up with the table, it will require you to pull the trailer through and park your tow vehicle behind it. Firewood can be purchased for$8 cash from the ranger station and ice for$6. If you want to use the well-maintained bathrooms or showers don’t stay in the 75-104 loop since the bathrooms are almost a half mile away via a trail that I would not recommend without closed toe shoes. We saw Quail and tarantulas on the trail. Although there were multiple signs to beware of rattle snakes we did not run into any. There was also a dog park near the main restrooms and showers. There is a dump station on your way out of the park that was easy to access. Goldfield Ghost Town just down the road, although a tourist trap it is a must see. There are multiple gift stores, a restaurant as well as a hamburger/ice cream stand and bakery, a train ride and Mine tours. Just a little farther down the road is the Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum which is more than just a museum full of old artifacts. There is a great gift shop and 15 acres of mining artifacts, artwork and a movie site Chaple used in a 1968 western called Charro which started Elvis Presley as well as the Apacheland Movie Barn used in multiple westerns. They even have a working 1914 Stamp ore mill which was used to crush boulders that had small pieces of gold within them. When enjoyed our two-night stay at Lost Dutch and spending the day learning about the history of this little community.

Campsite is at the foot of the Superstitious Mountains

While the sites at Lost Dutchman State Park are quite close together, the views and hiking trails are awesome! We camped in a campervan here (site 106) and it was perfect. We were in the 'rustic' loop, which consisted of sites without water or electric, and we could see Flatiron Mountain from our campsite.  
  
My only complaint with the site is that it was quite a long walk to the restroom! Tent campers may not be able to find a suitable spot to pitch as the sites are small, but if you can get a site between 33 and 40, you should have room to pitch a tent. There are also hiker/biker campsites that require a short walk. These have amazing views, as do the cabins. 

  

We would definitely stay here again - maybe in early March so we can see the wildflowers blooming!

Clean and mostly quiet camp group

Ranger Sara ROCKS!!! Her upbeat personality and kindness was greatly appreciated after a long day behind the wheel. The entire staff was welcoming and all the bath houses and showers were cleaned multiple times daily. Our site was spacious and well kept. Not a piece of trash to be found. Very convenient to Goldfield ghost town for a day of fun and a flowy 4 mile mtb loop as well. Our daughter did the jr ranger program and loved it!!! Thanks again, great park!

$1 million views

Friendly rangers. Clean restrooms and hot showers. Hiking trails. Start early in the day. It can get hot in April. We hiked the Treasure loop 
trail to the green rock. Then the PV trail down. 500 feet elevation gain over 2 miles. Loose gavel in some spots. Moderate difficulty. 

Perfect view of Superstition Mountain

While it's on the bottom of our "Fave AZ State Parks" it's only there because, it's busy. It's right outside of Phoenix and folks from the valley frequent it. Being at the entrance to beautiful Tonto NF doesn't help with the traffic either. But, it's still 5 stars. The sites tend to be backwards for hookups vs how you pull in. So, if you have a long hose and power cord, park accordingly. Did not use any bath houses. Thankful we had electricity as we almost hit 100 in April after a chilly AZ winter. 

Great views throughout. 

After years of reading rave reviews we finally got the chance to experience Lost Dutchman State Park, and we were fortunate to show up on a delightful Friday spring evening at 7p without a reservation and secure a last minute cancellation of Site 41 with 50 amp electric and water and a stunning view of the sunset on the Superstition Mtns.  This is a very nice park, but also very crowded as it is basically within the Phoenix metro area, so it feels a bit congested and overrun compared to many state park campgrounds.

Quiet (most of the time) and a beautiful view. Loved that the campsites were spread out. Only complaints are the weekend warriors being noisy at night and no sites have FHU. Only water and electric but still was nice to have those amenities

Best camping in the area!

Loved staying at lost Dutchman. We are full time in our Rv, stayed for a full week and had access to the bathrooms, showers, dump &amp; fill stations. We dry camped with no hookups but were able to use our generator at certain hours of the day. Great AT&amp;T service through our Insty to get internet for work. Mostly loved the copious amounts of trails to walk, hike and run on. Even did a bike ride up the Apache trail to Boulder lake. Such a beautiful location.
