Camping alongside the riverbank

This ‘campground’ is only open from October through March for overnight stays (Friday and Saturday nights only). Also why I only gave it 3 stars. Lots of sites to choose from, first come first serve. Public restroom/out houses (large tanks underground) dumpster in the parking lot for easy disposal on your way out. The best thing about this place is that I’ve seen the Salt River horses almost every visit. They come walking right up to the campsite, such beautiful animals.

Weekend Camp Spot

Overnight camping permitted on weekends only. lots of picnic areas and camping right next to the Salt River. Fires permitted in grills/rings except in dry season. This spot is typically not as crowded as Phon D Sutton, downstream. Tonto Pass required. Majority of area is shaded throughout the day!

Wild Horses!

Nice spot close to PHX and right on the Salt River. There are many developed sites with fire rings. Do not expect solitude or quiet, especially on weekends and school breaks. However, a glimpse of the local wild horses is very possible, assuming they haven't all been rounded up.

Would reccomend

Easily accessible, had stocked facilities and trash available. Had nearby water/river. Busy but likely due to veterans day weekend. Would recommend!

Close to home good time

We arrived late and left early but loved he location! It made it easy for us to swing by for the night without much of a time or packing commitment. We will definitely come back! The area was clean and well managed, the sites were just a little close to each other (when others are camping too).

Nice spot close to home

We arrived late but had no problem finding a spot. There was a good amount of people out there but it’s sooo spread out you barely notice the other people. Lots of soft sand since it’s next to the river so you have good ground to sleep on. If you’re lucky you’ll see the wild horses!!
