## Overview

 The Burro Creek Campground (1,960\_\_\_ elevation) is situated along the 57 mile Burro Creek in a transition zone between the upper reaches of the scenic Sonoran Desert and lower reaches of the scenic Mojave Desert. The campground offers visitors a variety of scenery including saguaro-studded cliffs along steep canyon walls that contrast Burro Creek\_\_\_s dense vegetation and flowing waters that form deep pools of water just adjacent to the campground.\_\_ 
## Recreation

 To enhance the visitor experience, the campground features a Watchable Wildlife Exhibit and an Interpretive Desert Garden as well as access to Burro Creek via hiking trails from the campground. The creek offers opportunities for rockhounding, wading, and wildlife viewing especially for birding with a wide-array of raptors and other species of birds. Sites 7, 8, and 9 are best for bird watching.\_\_ 
## Facilities

 Access to the Burro Creek Campground is provided via a 1.25 mile paved road from U.S. Highway 93 at mile post 140.2. The campground offers visitors 23 individual campsites, 1 group site, and 2 day-use sites featuring shaded picnic tables, fire rings with grates, and grills at the group site and day-use area. Flush toilet facilities are provided at 2 different locations in the campground as well as 1 dump station. Although water hookups are not available at campsites, drinking water is provided a various locations throughout the campground.\_\_ In planning your trip, please note that sites 1, 2, and 10 through 17 are best for larger RVs (Class A) and trailers (fifth wheels) due to maneuverability throughout the site. Other sites can be utilized for larger RVs and trailers, but it is recommended for visitor convenience that the aforementioned sites are used first.\_\_ 
## Natural Features

 The campground scenery features an adjacent canyon carved by the flow of Burro Creek with other mountains and mesas visible in the background as well as a diverse Sonoran desert plant community including saguaros, a variety of cholla and barrel cacti, creosote bushes, Palo Verde trees, and catclaw. Nearby, on the banks of Burro Creek, visitors will also see willow and cottonwood trees as well as a wide-variety of riparian shrubs.\_\_ Wildlife is frequent in the campground and include occasional sightings of desert bighorn sheep on the cliffs above Burro Creek and a variety of birds including cactus wren, Gambel\_\_\_s quail, Gila woodpecker, great horned owl, great blue heron, Vermilion flycatcher, and cliff swallow to name a few. Javelina, raccoons, coyotes, and foxes have been known to use the area as the creek serves an important role in the harsh desert environment.\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ 
## Nearby Attractions

 The public lands surrounding the Burro Creek Campground are readily available for visitors interested in sightseeing via use of a four-wheel drive vehicle along county-maintained dirt roads. These roads wind through a variety of interesting geologic scenery combined with unique vegetative communities including Sonoran and Mojave deserts intermingled with areas of interior chaparral and pinyon-juniper woodlands. County roads are maintained regularly, but it is always a good idea to check with the local BLM office prior to planning your trip as well as exercising caution when travelling on any of these unimproved dirt roads as visitors travel at their own risk.\_\_ The area, while desolate during the warm summer months, gives way to cooler temperatures from October through April annually and provides exceptional opportunities for hunting, off-highway vehicle use, wildlife watching, photography, sightseeing, and a variety of other dispersed recreational opportunities. Depending upon winter and spring precipitation, the area surrounding the Burro Creek Campground provides visitors with excellent spring wildflower displays March through May.\_\_\_\_\_\_ 
## Charges &amp; Cancellations

 Recreation.gov Reservation Cancellations &amp; Changes Cancelling a Reservation: Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and through the call center. A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund for a cancellation. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation (see below).\_\_ Recreation.gov Late Cancellations or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window Individual Campsites: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night\'s use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee.\_\_ Group Facility (including Cabins and Lookouts): Customers who cancel a group overnight facility reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night\'s use fee.\_\_ Recreation.gov No-Shows -Overnight and Day-Use Facilities: A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival). Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date and will hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date. -No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first night\_\_\_s recreation fee.

Burro Creek Campground

Along the Joshua Tree Highway, US 93, near Wikieup AZ, lies a small and lovely BLM campground.  The well paved road drops right off from the highway and into the river valley below. With less than 20 first-come, first-served sites, this cozy campground is a destination in and of itself. Each site has a covered picnic table and grill/pit, water spigots throughout the campground, and clean bathrooms with running water.

The creek flows through a stunning sandstone canyon and offers the chance to fly-fish, or swim/wade during lower water times.  Boating might be possible during higher water times. We visited during the spring 2019 “super bloom” of desert wildflowers which was a stunning addition to the rugged vistas.  Hiking opportunities through the many washes are nearly limitless, but there are few actual trails near the campground. The BLM has done a great job with interpretation signage, and a small education garden on the desert plants of this area amidst the transition between the Sonoran and Mojave deserts.  

The nearest town is Wikieup which has a gas station but not much in the way of food. Kingman is the closest larger city, about 40 minutes away, with all that you need.

Note: We had a weak mobile signal in the campground and surrounding area.

Unexpected oasis after a long drive!

Located in a canyon next to Burro Creek. The campground is first come first serve with about 30 spots. Multiple clean bathrooms and trash bins through out the camp. Not too far from the creek which you can hear running at night. Be prepared for rocky terrain to get to the creek. Pets allowed. About 12 miles south of the small town Wikieup where we went for dinner one night, but not much to do in town. Overall a nice desert campsite about a mile from the highway. 

Nice Desert Getaway

Nice place to camp .

Great campground kind of in the middle of nowhere (which is great). Just off highway 93, but you can’t really hear the road noise. Beautiful views of the Burro Creek bridge AND a river nearby. I’ve camped here multiple times, but this last time we were in a site where we could hear the river. Stars are beautiful out here. Sites have a shaded picnic table and a fire pit. Love this campground. 

One of my favorites

This is a wonderful BLM camp ground for dry camping. There are a lot of spots and they are well spaced so you're not on top of anybody else. Quite a few spots are pull through, if you have a large camper. All the spots have picnic tables with an awning and fire pits. Currently there are no bathrooms they're all newly being built I would expect they'll be done within a few months. There are no reservations so it is first come, first serve. There is also a place to fill water and dump. $14/night.

Great place for a layover

Camped at Burro Creek on Jan 13th 2021 for a couple of nights. BLM campground, sites have tables, fire rings, and cabanas. Water is available, as well as a dump station. There are two bathrooms and a group campsite as well. No utilities at any sites, but that's typical for BLM. Price is $14 for regular sites, first come first serve. Discounts are available with passes.  Campground sits in a canyon, nice hiking and star gazing. Water close by but wasn't flowing much when I visited. Fishing is possible when conditions are right. Gets crowded on weekends. No cell service.

Burro Creek, nice place.

We stopped here to use their dump station and fill our water tank.  This campground is a great place to feel like you're in a primitive campground, but with a dump and water available.

(make sure to pay the dump fee before you try to use the dump station. The host was uncomfortable with us dumping first and paying after, maybe they have been burned by too many dump and runs, I don't know).  Dump station is clean and there are two separate water hoses for cleaning your tank and one for filling your fresh water tank.

  

Beautiful area with a view of the Burro Creek bridge.  There is a really pretty cactus garden you can walk through.  Trash bins with aluminum recycling throughout.

Primitive camping with dump and water

Great BLM CG on long run to or from Kingman AZ.  Some sites are reserved but most are FF.  Noce new flush bathrooms and water spigots scattered. Trash bins, tables and shade canopies. Cell on TMobile good but nada for ATT and Verizon.  Camp host on site.   $14 / $7 senior.  

Nice quiet place on a long road trip

Stayed here early February, the camp road is accessible even with sedan/2wd. Campsites are close together but there’s enough space and plant life that it doesn’t feel like you’re on top of one another. There’s some noise from the road above you but it’s more ambient pink noise than it is disruptive.

I will also add that the bathrooms were very clean!
