The City of Seward has seven separate campground locations, six locations within Seward RV Waterfront Park:

Iditarod, Resurrection (utility area), Marathon, Harborside, Alice, William's Park (for smaller RVs and Tent camping)

Our community invites you to stay and play and experience the abundant winter recreational opportunities available in the area. Stay at the Waterfront Park in a small section of Resurrection Campground where the scenery is breathtaking. The cost to camp is $5 a night for Dry camping, or if you need electric hook-ups, camping is $20 per nighg for Seward Alaska RV Parks. Self-contained RV units only, as our water is off and the dump station is closed for the cold season. Garbage service is also not available and must be hauled home or off-site.

Campers are required to self-register prior to camping. Use the pay station located at the north entrance of the winter camping area of Resurrection Campground.

We work to provide snow and ice removal. Be warned, however, that conditions change rapidly and often in Seward. Campers must use common sense and caution in the winter camping area. Watch for snow, ice, and uneven surfaces.

Seward City Campgrounds

This review covers the Tent Camping Area near Waterfront park and Resurrection RV campground. Some spots have trees and provide some privacy. Tent spots have sand/gravel pads. Spots have picnic tables and fire pits. Dogs allowed but need to be on a leash. No showers but has a nearby restroom. If you want to take a shower you have to go to city center 10min = $2\. $10 a camp spot and max of 2 tents. No reservations. First come first serve. Check out is at 12pm.

Campground is near waterfront park that has a skate park and great playground for kids. There’s a paved path that goes along the water close to the campground. Walking, biking, and rollerblading is all possible on the waterfront path. Path runs from waterfront campgrounds all the way to the Sea Life Center.

Check the weather before heading for Seward. It has a reputation for being rainy and tent camping in the cool rain isn’t fun.

Tent camping area is great and near the water and the beach

This campground is perfectly located right between downtown Seward and Resurrection Bay. It is not very private or exceptionally quiet, but the price ($10 for tents!) and the views make up for it. We stayed here for 6 nights this month and it was great. The showers weren't the cleanest I've ever seen, but the water was hot and we never had to wait too long. It is first come-first serve and I know that it can be hard to find an RV spot depending on the time of the week, but we had several tent sites to choose from. 

Perfect views and location

Great access to fishing in Resurrecton bay!  Campsites are right on the water and the views are amazing.  That being said it does get filled up early on weekends. Since it's right in Seward, you'll have everything you could possibly need within walking distance.

Beautiful ocean front camping

A great spot to set up a tent back from the water where trees provide some shelter from the wind. It is well maintained and basic. The sites have fire pits and picnic tables. Some sites have lots of trees and some have pretty sparse tree coverage. You have a pretty good selection on sites. Sites with trees come in handy when you need traps for rain protection. A pretty good campground in Seward's camping offerings.

Williams Park

We stayed at Iditarod, which we liked the best as it offered more expansive views since its around the corner.  Plus, its much closer to town and Seward has great bars/restaurants and shops.

Iditarod nice for walking to town

You can't beat a location like this if being in the heart of Seward is what you're after. This campground is right on the waterfront in the downtown area, along a paved path. Sites are situated right next to each other, mostly on gravel with some grass. Some hookups available for an extra fee. These sites fill up on holiday weekends, especially 4th of July which is Seward's biggest holiday. No reservations taken so make sure to come early on Friday or midweek for a spot. It's a short walk to restaurants, shops and the SeaLife Center. Flush toilets, running water and showers (extra fee) available. If you have kiddos, a large and beautiful playground is nearby, along with a skate park.

Perfect location

This campsite was definitely worth the drive to Seward! My sister and I stayed here and we loved it. The staff was friendly and the campground is close to town so there is a lot to do!

so much beauty 

No matter what site you choose, more often than not Seward has a bit of a breeze due to the weather traveling up the fjord. If you’re in a tent, just stake it down good. Don’t let this deter you from a visit though. Seward has so much to offer from multiple beaches to comb, mountains to climb, fish to catch and waters to boat or kayak - you’ll always be busy and enjoying yourself too much. 

On Seward’s best days, the sun is beaming and the wind is calm, you can even take a dip in the water! 

Don’t let Alaskan weather dictate your adventure but instead just be prepared for anything. 

Windy Waterfont 

If you want to tent camp in Seward there are better choices than the city campground, but for a last-minute throw your gear in the car or on the train trip, this will do. The sites are first-come, first-serve, and on a busy weekend will fill up quickly. The sites are not separate from each other at all, which normally is a huge turn-off for me, but we happened to be camped next to some super-cool new friends.

The best part about this location is the proximity to the bars in Seward. Stumbling home to your tent after a night at the Yukon is infinitely preferable to driving to a further removed location.

The washroom has running water and clean toilets, and a slightly longer walk away are hot showers (for a fee). The tent camping is located right next to a great playground, so if you have younger kids this might be a good choice for you.

Good in a pinch

over all nice, port-a-potty’s are okay. overall nice campground and right on the bay! very close to downtown so always something to do!

nice sites, but RVs block the great views

The only reason this night turned out bad was because I insisted on sleeping in a tent even though it was raining and I got soaked. If it's raining and your tent is not equipped for it then find an alternative. We stayed in the tent section of the campground and had an incredible view of the sound and the glaciers. You are close to the bathrooms and playground in the tent section. There is a nice sidewalk that will lead you back into town. Public showers are available. Be sure to take quarters to get in. Tent sites are close together but all have a picnic table and fire ring. 

Rainy but beautiful

We love staying in the Seward City Campgrounds. There are two areas for tents, but we prefer the sites on the beach. The views are good, there are park bathrooms, and if you have kids you are right next to the playground. Each site has a parking spot, a fire ring, and a picnic table. We were here in mid-May and saw whales, otters, sea lions, and a multitude of birds right from the campsites. The cost is $10 per night, check out is at noon and you can get a 10 minute shower for $2 from the bath house. You are within walking distance to downtown, the docks, and the little shops. 

Relaxing with good location

It is so relaxing having your coffee at the oceans edge in the morning. You can see otters and eagles. So much to do and enjoy in Seward. The Sealife center is only a mile away. This is one of the best places in Alaska to camp. 

A room with a view

We were in a rented rv making a last minute stay over in Seward.  They had last minute room to boondock in an adjacent parking lot, which was also full in August. We stayed 2 nights, the second in an rv site in Resurrection. We saw some tents, but rv sites are located along the water. Even though sites are close together everyone minded their manners while we were here. There is a blacktop path that leads to the must-see Alaska Sea Life Center. The campground is also close to boat excirsions and restaurants at the dock. Pay shower, clean bathrooms, and a dump station. It was a peaceful stay with an awesome view of the ocean.

Oceanside City Campground in Seward

We had an amazing stay! It is so beautiful by the water, within walking distance to the Sea Life Center, and close to shopping. Great playground nearby too. 

Amazing views

This is our favorite place. Coming from California and moving to Alaska was a big change, but we found the ocean again in Seward Alaska. 

Love it here

Rented an RV in Anchorage and were happy to set up at this camp site. Right on the water and could see boats and otters throughout the day. The site is situated in a great central area and walking to town or the harbor was quick.  

Really enjoyed our stay. 

Great Site for 1st Timers

Windy night

Stayed here for 1 night on two separate occasions in March 2022. It’s part of the Seward Municipal Campgrounds but Iditarod is the only part of the campground that is open for winter camping. Tent camping isn’t allowed so its Rv’s/trailers only. There’s no water or electricity but you have a portapotty that is very clean and a dumpster for trash. We stayed in slot 103 both nights because it’s the only spot that has a fire ring and a picnic table. The view in the morning is beautiful as you see the sun rise above the mountains and see the reflection in the water. This camping lot is at mile marker 0 of the Iditarod Trail which I think is really neat! 

Verizon cell service is great and it only cost $15 online to camp in the winter. This is the only campground I noticed that was open for winter camping in Seward. 

Great Winter Camping Spot

Went the first week of May and was pretty busy. Our spot was right on the water. Bathrooms were kind of far from tent sites. Playground nearby, picnic benches, fire pit, &amp; walking trail. 

Perfect Spot

We stayed two nights at Marathon and it was great. No hook ups at this one, but that was fine. There were bathrooms just a short walk away, a playground across the street, and easy access to walk to the docks, restaurants, the SeaLife Center, etc. Sites were close but not claustrophobic. 

Marathon Campground

Extremely convenient place to stay. You can walk the boardwalk along Resurrection Bay and get to where a lot of the shops/restaurants/tourist attractions are and where the cruise ships pull into port. Super convenient. You could go the opposite direction and walk to downtown as well. 

The campground is just a huge gravel parking lot with a ton of RVS.....it's $65/night partial hookup if you want to camp right on the bay. $55/night if you camp one row back. We chose $55 a night as we had plenty of good views but a lot of  people chose that front spot. This is for electric only. There is a dump station/water down the road. The shower house was under maintenance which was unfortunate due to the price. They have portapottys out, so you can go to the bathroom, but the reviews I have seen said the bathrooms are gross. You would think the city could do better than this. They are rolling in the $$s as the campground is busy. Level spots too.

We were able to see birds and a sea otter steps from our camper. A neat place for sure! I guess it usually rains there as it foggy and rainy the two days we spent there.



Convenience & views

Tent review. This would not be my first pick of campgrounds, however, travelling in shoulder season, options are limited. Since we are tent campers, we stayed in that section in Resurrection Sound. The sites are tight with zero privacy. As long as you have good neighbors, its not a problem. Our first couple nights were fairly enjoyable. The homeless family living in a site 2 down from us weren't too bad except for them splitting wood after dark when we were trying to sleep. It was labor day weekend and our last night was miserable. The campground filled up with locals there to party. They set up pop up tents, brought amplifiers, music, instruments and were up until 2 or 3 in the morning getting drunk. The views were okay. The walking path along the campground is very nice. The public park bathrooms were fairly clean considering their use. We had to drive into the city to use the harbor showers. They are coin operated. They were fairly clean.
