The lake provides a great location for practically any water activities you can think of. While you’re not allowed to put a motorized boat in, you can use a a small electric motor boat, or even paddle boards. There’s areas to rent Canoes, Kayaks, Paddle Boards, and more nearby. In addition, fishing is another extremely popular activity here. If you bring a rod out, you can find Trout, Bass, and Blue Gill. For anyone over 16, a Maryland Angler's License is required, and all Maryland fishing laws apply. There is also a 500 acre hunting area, where general hunting is permitted.
Perhaps most notable is the various hiking trails found throughout the park. More than 11 miles of trails wind through and twist around the local geography, revealing the various quirks and features of the land. On the eastern edge of the park, Bartman Hill can be found, which is also where part of the Appalachian trail passes through. Aside from hiking, there is also an ADA accessible visitor center. What’s more, there’s even a beach wheelchair!
Throughout the park, there are 165 campsites available for reservation. 40 of these campsites even have electric hookups. Furthermore, there are bathhouses located throughout with hot-water showers. There’s also a dump station for those planning on staying here in a van or RV. Fires are allowed on all campsites but must be kept within the fire rings. According to the state park website, pets are allowed in the Cedar and Dogwood camp loops with a few conditions. For one, Pets are only allowed on trails outside day-use area. Additionally, pets are allowed in day-use area and lake from the day after Labor Day to the Friday before Memorial Day.
Nightly rates for campsites start at $21.49. If you choose to reserve a campsite with electric, expect to pay $27.49. Lake Front Gazebos (capable of sheltering 32) are available for day-use rent at $100. A four mile section of deep water runs from our campground to above the Dargan Bend Boat Ramp in Maryland. Pontoon boats, fishing boats, water skiing, wake boarding, and jet skis are welcome. Pitch your tent and tie your boat up out front. Bring your RV as well. There are electricity and water hookups for RV sites. For those willing to rough-it, it is a beautiful unique location. Owens Creek Campground offers families and individuals enjoyable primitive tent camping. Located just five miles from Thurmont, Maryland, in the rolling hills of Catoctin Mountain Park.
As a primitive camping area, Owens Creek encourages visitors to use healthy doses of imagination while surrounded by the natural landscape. Nature hikes and campfire circles are popular activities. The Deerfield Nature Trail connects directly to the campground and is a 1.5 mile loop with a connection to the park's western system of trails. Browns Farm Trail is nearby in the Owens Creek Picnic Area and offers budding archeologists with a peek into the history of the area. This trail is also a youth friendly 'Track Trail'. This campground contains 48 single campsites with a limit of five people, or immediate family, per site. There are no-hookups. Maximum 22' trailer length and RVs up to 30'. There are three pull through sites, #12, #39 and #43. Flush toilets, showers and drinking water are available and centrally located in the campground. All sites are equipped with a tent pad, picnic tables, and fire ring. All tents must fit on the tent pads. Firewood is available and donations are greatly appreciated.

The Antietam Creek Campground is located at Mile 69.4 on the C&O Canal Towpath, a few miles south of Shepherdstown on the Maryland side of the Potomac River. The campsites are nestled in the woods between the Canal and the Potomac River and they are a short distance from many recreational opportunities. Fishing, boating and hiking are but a few possibilities while staying at Antietam Creek Campground.
Popular activities at Antietam Creek include boating and fishing. Kayaking the creek and surrounding areas during various times of the year are scenic and ever changing. Nearby boat ramps at Dargan Bend and Snyders Landing provide motor boat access to the river. Fishing is also a popular pastime in both the watered sections of the C&O Canal the Potomac River. Be sure to acquire a Maryland Fishing License for those age 16 or older. West Virginia Licenses are approved for fishing in the Potomac only.
The campground has 20 single campsites each with a picnic table, fire ring and grill. Each campsite will accommodate up to eight campers. Protected pit toilets are located between campsite #6 and campsite #7 adjacent to the towpath. A second set of chemical toilets are available down the towpath. Potable water is along the towpath at pumps (may not be available during cold winter months). No vehicular traffic is allowed on the towpath and access to the campsites is by foot only. Parking is allowed on the shoulder of Canal Rd only.
Antietam Creek Campground is just south of Sharpsburg, MD. Antietam Creek is a typically mild and slow moving creek which feeds into the much larger and faster Potomac River directly adjacent to the campsite. River rise and floods can modify conditions quickly here.
Antietam Battlefield, South Mountain Recreation Area and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park all provide additional hiking and history adventures specifically about the Civil War Era.
